Mascara Tube Drop Checks and Complete Shipment Validation

A drop check on one mascara tube answers a narrower question than a distribution evaluation of the complete packed product. The tested object, its condition and the handling sequence determine what the result can support. Passing one tube check does not establish that a shipping configuration will protect all its contents.

Define the object before interpreting a drop result

Record whether the specimen is an empty tube, an assembled empty package or a filled and closed product. These differ in mass, internal loading and the defects that can be observed. An empty-pack check cannot demonstrate formula leakage resistance. Document orientation, impact conditions and inspection criteria; a result without those conditions is difficult to compare.

Test the actual shipping configuration

For distribution evaluation, identify the product version, quantity, arrangement, separators, trays, inner packaging, carton and sealing method. The protective system changes how loads reach each tube. A carton of empty components and a retail parcel of filled mascara are different packed products, even if they contain the same tube design. Use a representative configuration rather than treating a bare tube as a substitute.

Match the evaluation to the route

Consider the expected handling and transport mode, including whether the package moves as a parcel or as part of a larger shipment. ISTA’s public procedure summaries distinguish screening tests from general simulation and identify different shipment applications. Those summaries help select scope; they do not supply a universal drop height, sequence or sample count for every mascara shipment. Agree an appropriate procedure with the responsible testing team.

Inspect protection and package function

After the defined sequence, inspect the shipping materials and the contained units against agreed criteria. Depending on specimen condition, checks may include breakage, scuffing, component displacement, closure operation and leakage. State exactly what was inspected. An intact carton alone does not prove its contents remain functional, and certification of a manufacturer’s management system does not replace a product-and-package test.

Review changes before using an earlier result

Changes to the product, protective packaging, packing process or route can affect whether earlier evidence remains applicable. Review the need for retesting rather than carrying a pass forward automatically. SamBound New Material Technology Company Ltd. supplies empty mascara packaging; product information at sambound.com does not establish that a particular filled product and shipping configuration has passed distribution validation.
